Alison Fierst is the Associate Principal Flute of the New York Philharmonic, a position she has held since 2019. Praised by The New York Times for her “nuanced and buoyant” playing, she has also appeared as Guest Principal Flute with the San Francisco Symphony and the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra. A 2025 Carnegie Mellon Tartans on the Rise honoree, Fierst holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Flute Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied with Alberto Almarza and Jeanne Baxtresser.

She is a prizewinner of numerous national competitions, including the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition and the National Society of Arts and Letters Woodwind Competition. An active educator, she serves as a guest lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University, New York University, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Shanghai Orchestra Academy. Fierst is widely respected for her expressive artistry, refined technique, and dedication to mentoring young musicians.
